Jalebi, also known as Jilapi, zulbia, mushabak and zalabia, is a Middle Eastern sweet snack popular all over South and Western Asia. It is made by deep-frying maida flour (plain flour or all-purpose flour) batter in pretzel or circular shapes, which are then soaked in sugar syrup. This dessert can be served warm or cold. When the sugar has dissolved, add the saffron and bring to the boil.

The ingredients needed to make Jalebi:
  1. Make ready 1/2 cup all purpose flour / maida
  2. Prepare 1/4 tsp baking soda

  5. Prepare 5 tbsp water, or as required
  6. Get 1/8 tsp turmeric powder / haldi / yellow food colour, optional
  7. Get FOR SUGAR SYRUP:
  8. Take 1/4 cup water
  9. Make ready 1/4 tsp saffron strands / kesar, optional
  10. Make ready 1 cup sugar
  11. Get 2 tbsn lemon juice
  12. Take 1/4 tsp cardamom powder / elachi powder

Jalebi is a hot favorite on any special occasion be it a birthday, wedding or festival. Jalebis, though mostly eaten by themselves, can also be soaked in warm milk. Jalebi is the Indian sweet that is spiral round in looking dunk in the sugar syrup. Every person has different opinions about the serving of the Jalebi.

Instructions to make Jalebi:
  1. In a mixing bowl, mix maida, curd.then add half tsp vinegar and water.mix well in round circular directions for 4 minutes.
  2. Now add baking soda and give a gentle mix.now pour this batter in the tomato ketchup bottles carefully.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add 1 tbsp of ghee.squeeze the bottle and make round spirals with the batter.
  4. When one side is partly cooked, turn over and fry the other side.fry till the jalebis are a light golden. - then immediately drop the fried jalebis in the warm sugar syrup for 30 seconds
