Jalebi, also known as Jilapi, zulbia, mushabak and zalabia, is an Indian and Arabic sweet snack popular all over South Asia and Middle East. It is made by deep-frying maida flour (plain flour or all-purpose flour) batter in pretzel or circular shapes, which are then soaked in sugar syrup. This dessert can be served warm or cold.
Steps to make Jalebi:
- Mix maida, corn flour and baking soda in a bowl. Now, add ghee and orange food colour. To make a thick batter, add curd and water. Mix well until it is thick. Keep it aside for 6 hours.
- Heat water in a pan & add sugar and mix until it dissolved. Now add cardamom powder and Stir well.
- Now heat oil in a pan & fill the jalebi batter in a muslin cloth and pierce a small hole in the cloth. Squeeze the muslin cloth to make concentric circles. Move from inside to outside to make perfect circles. Fry till jalebis are crisp and golden.
- Put the jalebis in sugar syrup for 2-3 minutes. Now take them out from the syrup and place on and serve them hot.
