A pepernoot (Dutch pronunciation: ['peːpərˌnoːt] (); plural: pepernoten ['peːpərˌnoːtən] (); literally, "pepper nuts") is a Dutch cookie-like confectionery, traditionally associated with the early December Sinterklaas holiday in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The ingredients needed to make Pepernoten:
- Get 200 gr butter
- Prepare 250 g soft brown sugar

In November and December Pepernoten enter the stores in the Netherlands. There are two types of Pepernoten, the traditional soft and chewy ones and the crunchy ones which are technically called 'Kruidnootjes' (Spice Nuts). Pepernoten are a traditional Dutch Sinterklaas favourite - these small, round biscuits, which are also referred to as kruidnoten, are made from wheat flour and a unique blend of speculaas spices and tend to swell Dutch supermarket shelves in the weeks prior to Sinterklaas.
Instructions to make Pepernoten:
- Pre-heat the oven to 180C. Line three trays with baking parchment.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. After, mix in the ingredients and knead until all ingredients are combined.
- Roll little balls of between your fingers and place them on the baking tray, slightly pressing them down. Be sure to leave some space between them.
- Bake for 15 / 20 minutes until slightly brown. Leave to cool and enjoy!
